Do you remember our long talks
we worked together, ran the same circles, always talking to you
our worlds moving in and out over the years, we were friends thick and through
I was there when your mom passed, when you changed jobs, and began your family
the connection was always there, picking up regardless of the time
people talking I always had your back, throwing up in my car I still gave you slack
And then one day I needed a friend to help me, asking to return a favor in need
that’s when I learned you were a one way friend
you didn’t recognize my number, but hope I’m doing well you pretend
that’s when I learned you were a one way friend
When you lost your love, I was a friend
kept it touch, building you back up, trying to help you mend
you are a person of worth I reminded you, listened to your stories of working to revive
when you questioned taking a step, i encouraged you to take a leap
You had more pain, but my advice never waned
Go for it, times are tough, but you can be happy again
And then I turned to you for help, someone to talk to
that’s when I learned you were a one way friend
you didn’t recognize my number, so long, hope I’m doing well
that’s when I finally knew you were a one way friend, no more pretend
