Nashville

Alex S. Odren

I started learning chords at 15 hoping to make a sound like Johnny Cash
writing songs of our youth while driving back roads and drinking bad mash
playing covers with my boys working to improve our game
we were loud and sloppy but hell that was our thing

I’m going to Nashville, Nashville is where I need to be
play my songs in the honkeytonks, the country and western scene
I want my name on Broadway, but New York aint for me
join me at Layla’, Tootsies, Bluebird, the Music City never sleeps

I remember taking any job to make it through the day at night we were would be troubadours, telling our stories along the way Wearing my Justins, HUK, and keeping the Jack close by playing local dives, open mic, legion halls, learning on the fly

I don’t need to land in LA to make my name
Don’t want that sellout money anyway
Not looking to hear the DJ drop a fake song
me being in Hollywood is just plain wrong
Influencers, podcasters, none of them make a thing
We put our hands in the dirt and plant in the spring

I’m going to Nashville, Nashville is where I need to be play my songs in the honkeytonks, the country and western scene I want my name on Broadway, but New York aint for me join me at Layla’ , Tootsies, Bluebird, the Music City never sleeps

Dreaming to play the Opry, a packed crowd or a few Songs to make you forget your troubles or remember what you knew country, blues, three chords and the truth, I do it all for you I’m on my way to Nashville, 80 proof of courage will do
