The Walk

Alex Odren, August 2020

The man had been walking a very long time
He felt a growing weight and turned to view his line
He saw where he had stumbled and had to crawl
He saw where his footprints were strong and stood tall
But his prints were fading now as he continued his quest
He was ready to pass the baton and begin a new trade
Like an old soldier, he would simply fade
And the man so wanted to be relieved of his burden
He longed for peace in his mind, wanted to drop the curtain
The man saw others in the distance taking up this dance
He turned back, his heart content and smiled as he had his chance
He looked ahead, his footprints washing away as he walked in the ebb and flow of the tide
The man's silhouette slowly fading with the sunset as his guide
